It’s that time of year again. The weather has turned from 80’s to 30’s (where did autumn weather go? Isn’t autumn supposed to be more than 1 day?). The pumpkins have been sold. The World Series is over. Thoughts turn to sweaters, turkeys, football, and soon enough to pine trees, fruitcake and presents. One of the things that |
marks this time of year is that it is Stewardship Season. I know, I know, talk about money is about as comfortable as a tetanus shot, for you as well as for me. So I’ll keep it short and as painless as I can. One. We have a great thing going on here at NPC. Many people have commented recently about how the ethos around here is as good as it has been in a while. These things go in cycles, I say, and we are in a good cycle right now. It feels like we are on a precipice to do exciting things, possibly new things, maybe things to attract new people, or things to get out in the community in new ways. Who knows? Only time will tell and our willingness to follow where God through the Holy Spirit will lead will be important. But this much we do know: whatever the future will bring, the amount of ministry we are able to accomplish will be affected by the financial stewardship of our church. To be in a position to do what God wants us to do, we will need to have a healthy budget and a strong sense of stewardship. Where we can go will be affected by where we are. Two. Along those same lines, our giving this year is behind what we had anticipated. I really think we are on the verge of an exciting time, of an overwhelmingly joyous season. But I believe that we will be seriously hampered in that attempt if we are working ourselves out of debt, and decreasing our budget, expending much of our energy on money. I know, like so many of you do, that we are like many, many churches, who run in the red until November and December, and who always seem to catch up during the holiday season. I am well aware of how generous this church is. I want to call upon that generous spirit again, as we approach the holidays, to once again come through and make budget. Where we can go will be affected by where we are. So, I encourage you to join us in our time of stewardship, in our season of generosity, to come and enjoy a pleasant time, reflecting upon all of the Lord’s goodness to us. My hope continues to be that we would all, |
