Litany for the new Baptismal Fount

January 11, 2008

Leader: Give Thanks to the Lord who is good.

All: God’s love is everlasting.

Family of Walter Cochran: Let us come to God with Thanksgiving

Leader: Here is where we have come to become aware of God’s forgiveness.

All: To experience God’s Mercy.

Family of Walter Cochran: To know God’s Grace.

Leader: We know these gifts from a gracious God.

All: From our life together.

Family of Walter Cochran: And from the saints who lived them out in our presence.

Leader: Let us continue to live as forgiven children of God.

All: Who spread God’s Mercy to others,

Family of Walter Cochran: And who show and accept Grace from all.

Leader: We come to this Fount assured of God’s promises

All: Working for Mercy through Justice

Family of Walter Cochran: Living Grace through Love.

Leader: Hear our prayer, O God, as we pray

All: We thank you, Lord God, for the Saints in our lives who have passed on the tradition of faith which celebrates grace, mercy, love, forgiveness and justice. Let us never forget them, especially Walter. By their energies this church continued and grew. Eternal God, high and holy, no piece of furniture can contain your glory or display the wonders of your love. May this fount be used as a reminder that your grace and glory are for all. May this fount remind us to work for justice and equality, and to offer a place for all of your children. As we worship, let us worship gladly. Remembering all those Christians who have gone before us, may we follow as they followed, in the way, truth, and life of Jesus Christ, the head of the church.

Amen.
