Summer Feeding Program

Local Mission Opportunity; 150+ Children need meals in the summer

Each summer over 150 homeless children in the Norcross area are in need of food.  These children are living in local hotels. The children receive free breakfast/lunches when school is in session, however, during the summer the full burden of feeding these children falls on parents who already struggle to make ends meet.

Thanks to the food service staff at Greater Atlanta Christian School (GACS), many of these children will be provided with 2 meals each day during the summer months.
Norcross Cooperative Ministry (NCM) will partner with GACS to feed these children. The program is labor intensive and carries a program cost estimated at $14,000.

How can NPC members and friends help?

If you would like to help by packing or delivering food, please contact Shirley Cabe (NCM Director) at 770-263-0013 or Diane Lewis (770 263-7445).

On June 4th we have the opportunity to support the 2006 Pentecost Offering for Children at Risk, Youth, and Young Adults.  Forty percent of the Offering stays with our congregation to support ministries of our choosing that serve children at risk.  Witness and Evangelism has received Session approval to direct 40% of the Pentecost special offering to the Summer Feeding Program as a local mission for at risk children.

Offer prayers – for these children and their families and the Summer Feeding Program

The summer feeding program will run for 8 weeks (5 days per week) starting June 5th.  Five to six volunteers are needed between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday to pack meals and/or deliver meals to seven extended stay hotels in the Norcross area.  You can set your own schedule in coordination with the GACS/NCM team (10 weeks, 1 day, 1 week, 1 day per week); just follow your heart and your summer schedule as you support this local outreach opportunity.
